UMAK Is An Internationally Accredited Korean Martial Arts Educational Center Established In 1995
Authentic Techniques, Traditions, Philosophy
Ultimate Martial Arts & Kickboxing (UMAK) prides itself on having quality, genuine Martial Arts Instruction blending traditional martial arts values with timelessly effective self-protection skill sets. We are proud of our direct lineage and are dedicated to passing on the authentic techniques, concepts, and philosophies of our Hapkido family, seamlessly applying them to modern challenges.
UMAK was established in 1995. All classes at UMAK are led by Internationally Certified Instructors and Apprentice Instructors. UMAK is not a Martial Sport club or neighborhood gym. UMAK is an accredited Korean Martial Arts Educational Center.
HapKiDo isn’t just about physical self-protection skills. Although it is effective self-defense, it’s also a journey of self-discovery, personal development and academic exploration. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced practitioner of Korean Martial Arts, UMAK offers a transformative experience that nurtures both body and mind, fostering a community of martial artists who embody discipline, respect, and a profound connection to the time-tested traditions.
UMAK Instructors place a balanced emphasis on the academic aspects of martial arts. In addition to physical conditioning, students delve into the martial sciences: studying physiology to understand the body’s responses during combat, exploring psychology to enhance their understanding of self-defense strategies, and cultivating a focused mind through meditation and breathing practices.
Internationally Recognized / Certified Instructors
There is often a misconception that having a Black belt makes a person qualified to teach others. This is false and damaging to not only the art, but also the individuals being instructed. Earning a Black Belt means that they have graduated from the color belt ranks and have built a foundation on which to learn. Not teach. Just as in academic higher education, there is a depth of knowledge required to go on to the levels of Associates, Bachelors, Masters, Doctorate, PhD and more. The same is true for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th degree Black Belts in our Hapkido system.
Having a Black Belt of any rank or style does not in itself qualify someone to be an instructor regardless of degree ranking. At UMAK, our instructors hold genuine, Internationally Certified rankings and must meet stringent qualifications. They have been, and continue, yearly professional training to be able to teach others to pass on the correct foundational knowledge and skill sets to others. This ensures the continuation of the high standards and authenticity of the art of Hapkido. UMAK Instructor’s and Black Belt holders are proud members of the Korea Hapkido Federation.
